Samsung draws iPad mini into patent battle

Samsung draws iPad mini into patent battle

NEW YORK - Samsung has filed papers at a United States court alleging that Apple's iPad mini, introduced this month, infringes eight patented technologies.

It is the latest salvo in the rivals' global legal battle. The Korean giant asked a judge on Wednesday to add Apple's 7.9-inch tablet to a list of products it claims violate patents on radio signalling technologies, among others.

Both firms are seeking to ensure the others' most recent products are drawn into the fight, which could lead to sales bans. Last week Apple successfully applied to add Google's most recent mobile operating system, Android 4.2, Jelly Bean, to the case.

The case is separate to one decided by a jury at the same court earlier this year. It awarded Apple more than a billion dollars in damages after finding that Samsung copied the iPhone and iPad in its Galaxy range of smartphone and tablets.

In a minor victory for Samsung, also on Wednesday, the judge in the current case ordered Apple to reveal the financial details of its patent licensing deal with HTC, signed on Nov 10.

Legal experts say the question of which patents are covered by the HTC settlement, and licensing details, could be instrumental in Samsung's efforts to thwart Apple's subsequent quest for a permanent sales ban on its products.

Samsung has argued it is "almost certain" that the HTC deal covers some of the same patents involved in its own litigation with Apple. It seeks to show Apple is willing to license its technology if the price is right.

The court ordered Apple to produce a full copy of the settlement agreement "without delay", though it will only be revealed to Samsung's legal team, the Daily Telegraph reported.

It has been speculated that HTC has agreed to pay Apple a royalty of up to US$8 (S$9.80) on each smartphone it sells. The firm's chief executive firmly denied that figure, however.

"I think that these estimates are baseless and very, very wrong," he said. "It is an outrageous number, but I'm not going to comment anything on a specific number."

"I believe we have a very, very happy settlement and a good ending."

The settlement of Apple and HTC ended their worldwide litigation and brought to a close one of the first major flare-ups in the global smartphone patent wars.

Apple first sued HTC in 2010, setting in motion a legal conflagration that has since circled the globe and engulfed the biggest names in mobile technology. AGENCIES

Samsung Q330 Suri Review, Specs and Price

Samsung Q330 Suri

Waaw..Samsung one of popular manufacturer of laptop has announced another Samsung series laptop model named Samsung Q330 Suri. The Samsung Q330 Suri proved to be a simply designed office subnotebook with (limited) mobility advantages in our test. The battery life of four hours, the keyboard's good feedback, the silent operation and the seldomly achieved brightness (281 cd/m2) are decisive advantages.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer ruins this bonus with a hardly glare type display hardly suitable for use in sunlight. The mini entry-level GPU, Nvidia Geforce 310M (512 MB) can be disabled via Nvidia's Optimus. The graphics isn't supposed to be a purchasing factor though. Current games will have a hard time (see gaming tests on the Geforce 310M's data sheet). In the end, its slim silhouette and the brushed aluminum looks could be purchasing arguments. The workmanship doesn't surpass the average in view of the selectively yielding case and the not completely tightly mounted hinges. You can get the Samsung Q330 Suri 999 Euro. Samsung Chromebook Series 5 Review, Specs and Price

Samsung Chromebook Series 5

Can a browser-based operating system unseat Windows in the budget notebook space? That's the hope with the Samsung Chromebook Series 5, the first commercially available notebook to feature Google's Chrome OS. Boasting a lightweight and attractive design, an impressive boot time, and 3G connectivity, the Series 5 is made for students and other consumers who don't need a lot of power. But does the $499 Samsung Series 5 deliver as much performance as similarly priced netbooks?

Inside the Samsung Chromebook Series 5 is a 1.66GHz Atom processor, 2 GB DDR3 RAM and a 16GB SSD. These power 12 “1280 × 800 non-bright 300 nits screen. Atom Processors in my experience are good only because they are low-power CPU and I never found a machine-based Atom is recommended. RAM is marketed as high-speed DDR3, but it is barely faster than DDR2. As for netbooks are less powerful than the machines last year Chromebook. Samsung QX411-W01 Review, Specs and Price

Samsung QX411-W01

There are many laptops in aluminum, but the Samsung QX411-W01 has found a place among the elite. The gun metal finish design and color is even more attractive because of its small size of the QX411, which measures only one inch thick. Aluminum has the same feeling you get from even the 13-inch MacBook Pro. A solidly built metal frame also means that 5.1 pounds, is slightly heavier than its plastic counterparts, such as the Sony VAIO PCV-EG16FM ($ 829.99 list, 4 stars)-Dell Inspiron i14RN4110 7616DBK (649, the list $ 99, 3 stars), both 4.9 pounds. For more details of full specs Samsung QX411-W01, you can read below :

Samsung QX411-W01 Specs and Features :
Unlike the previous iteration, the Samsung S02, QX411, Samsung QX411-W01 Wireless screen in the second iteration, or simply, Widi 2.0. Not only the family of streaming shows slides or PowerPoint presentations wirelessly to HDTV, but now supports 1080p streaming (the previous version of the Widi was only 720p) and the protected content (think of the movie on DVD). However, you need to buy Netgear Push2TV receiver (optional $ 99 for Best Buy), which is always connected to your HDTV. Another feature of this laptop, WiMAX is often referred to as 4G wireless. It covers the entire city, as opposed to a Wi-Fi, which covers the short range. Throughput ranges from 3 to 8 Mbps, which is as fast as many home DSL packages. Best of all, the pricing plans are cheaper than most Internet packets, and do not have a dongle hanging off and the USB port.

There are no Blu-ray player, just a DVD burner, the VAIO EG16FM include in its price setting. Three ports (two USB and HDMI) is hidden behind a cover and implanted port with the USB 3.0 technology (10 times faster than USB 2.0). So I get a cover port offers an extra layer of protection, it is difficult to draw from to get to these ports. The third USB port is uncovered, and the one I used most frequently. The laptop is equipped with a disk of 750 GB 5400 rpm drive. The speakers are just above the keyboard and its better than U46E-BAL and EG16FM.

Best Buy also has an extended warranty program, which adds one year to one year standard warranty offered by most manufacturers. There are two plans in this extended warranty program. The standard diet ($ 119.99) covers the system against wear and tear, power surge damage, and includes a "No Lemon" Guarantee Purchase, where just replace the computer if you need more repairs during the four coverage period. POINT Best Buy ($ 219.99) offers all this and the system also covers accidental damage from falls and spills. Other special offers can be found online or in stores such as discounts on printers, software and technical support plans are available on any PC consumers new products purchased through Best Buy.
Samsung QX411-W01 The sport-W01 Sandy Bridge Intel technologies. The 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5-2410M processor is faster and is current on the Asus and Sony EG16FM U46E-BAL5. As such, easily handbrake (1:59) and Cinebench R11.5 (2.56) tests, which was almost as fast as the Asus U46E (1:53 handbrake on Cinebench 2.59) and EG16FM Sony (2:05 to brake, Cinebench 2.6 in). It (2163) fell slightly behind the Asus U46E-BAL5 (2215) in PCMark 7, an indicator of overall performance, but the difference is negligible in the real world. It is fast enough to handle any pao editing suite, including the most demanding, Adobe Paoshop CS5, CS5 mark 4:10 in our test.

The Samsung QX411-W01 also has two graphics chips, a processor (integrated) and Nvidia GeForce 520M GT graphics card. The Nvidia graphics chipset has presented a significant increase in gaming performance, but at low resolution. With all the quality settings up, however, could not handle games like Crysis (5.5 fps) and Lost Planet 2 (12.5 fps). Results of games BAL5-U46E Asus, which runs on integrated graphics just were not much worse.

The laptop is equipped with Nvidia graphics technology automatically switchable. This means that when the dedicated GPU is idle or the system is not connected, the laptop back on an Intel integrated graphics. This is a boon for QX411-W01, as the battery is sealed 60WH (if you can not go with a backup battery). The laptop lasted 8 hours and 48 minutes, the best score of the battery from his peers. By comparison, Asus U46E-BAL (7:19), Sony EG16FM (8:12), and 13-inch MacBook Pro (3:58) is not so impressive.

Samsung QX411-W01 is beautifully designed inside and out. Its only detraction is that it is more expensive than most consumer notebooks in its class. The premium you pay is the average battery life of high quality, stylish design, robust and excellent gaming performance. If you want a better value overall, with less compromise Asus U46E-BAL5 is our choice in this class.
